Overcoming the Fear of Being Photographed

(And Why It’s Totally Normal to Feel Nervous at First)

Making the process easy, comfortable, and even fun.

Let’s start with some honesty: most people don’t enjoy being in front of a camera at first. Especially men. You might feel awkward, unsure what to do with your hands, worried about looking stiff or fake, or maybe even a little exposed.

If that sounds like you, you’re in excellent company. I get it. Being photographed is vulnerable, and if it’s not something you do regularly, it can feel downright uncomfortable.

But here's the good news. You don’t have to be a professional model or know all the “right” poses to get photos you actually like. That's what I’m here for, to help you forget the camera's even there and get you looking natural, confident, and like you.

Why Does Being Photographed Feel So Weird?

Think about it. How often do you actually stop and look at yourself? Most of us don’t spend much time in front of mirrors and even less time considering how to “perform” visually. Add a camera pointing your way, and suddenly it's like being on stage without a script. You freeze up and suddenly you're a deer in headlights.

You're not alone in feeling self-conscious. Most people, and yes men in particular, haven't been taught how to pose or feel comfortable in front of a lens. Instead, they freeze, put their arms awkwardly at their sides, or try to smile like it's school picture day. That's the moment they start dreading it and panic.

I Got You (Really)

Here's the thing. I don’t expect you to know what you’re doing. And that's completely fine! I'll guide you through every step, from how to stand and where to put your hands, to how to breathe and find your best angles.

The goal is to make the whole process feel as natural as possible. In fact, one of the best ways to prepare is just to be open to the experience. If you show up willing to try, I'll handle the rest. I got you.

Practical Tips to Ease Your Nerves Before the Shoot

Here are a few simple things you can do to help calm those nerves before your session:

  • Practice in front of a mirror. Play around with poses, smiles, and angles. Don’t worry about being perfect. This is just about getting familiar with yourself on camera.

  • Wear clothes that feel like you. Comfort equals confidence. You’ll look more natural when you feel good in what you’re wearing.

  • Get a good night’s sleep. This one sounds basic but when you feel rested, you show up more relaxed and ready to enjoy the process.

  • Breathe. Seriously. Deep, slow breaths before and during your shoot help calm your mind and body, and that shows in your photos.

What Happens When You Show Up

When you arrive, I want you to know that you are in a space that is judgment-free and designed to put you at ease. We'll chat, laugh, take breaks whenever you need, and sometimes even dance! It's all part of the process to getting you some kickass portraits.

Let This Be Your Sign

If the fear of being photographed has held you back, consider this your permission slip to try something different. You don’t have to be perfect, you don’t have to have it all figured out, and you definitely don’t have to do it alone.

I've been on both sides of the camera and understand exactly how it feels. My goal is to make this experience as easy and rewarding as possible.

You’re worth it.

Let's chat.
